On 5 December 2011, over 100 nations meet in Bonn, Germany, to discuss the international strategy on Afghanistan. The conference takes place ten years since the fall of the Taliban and another international conference in Bonn which drew up an agreement to ‘end the tragic conflict in Afghanistan and promote national reconciliation, lasting peace, stability and respect for human rights’.
Ten years later, while progress has been made in some areas, Afghanistan is still at war and is far from achieving many commitments made in Bonn ten years ago.
We are calling on the German Foreign Ministry, as hosts of the conference, to ensure the conference leads to positive action and not just words for the Afghan people.
